NVIDIA’s H100, H200, and B200 accelerators are not a product line. They are infrastructure — the same way oil refineries were infrastructure in the last century. Without them, the AI stack doesn’t train, doesn’t fine-tune, doesn’t infer. It stops.

Texas is now second only to Virginia in data center construction, with capital expenditure up 3,000% over five years — exceeding $10 billion. The Hill Country, Edwards Aquifer, and Colorado River basin are the backstop for all of it. Communities in Hays County are already blocking proposed data center developments. S&P Global has flagged water scarcity as a creditworthiness risk for chip manufacturers. When physical resource constraints enter credit ratings, they move from ESG footnote to core valuation input. The repricing has begun — but it is early.
The market currently treats semiconductor water risk as a localized operational concern — a line item in sustainability reports, managed by recycling targets and pledges. That framing misses the systemic exposure.
Taiwan produces 90% of the world’s advanced chips. The island has been in a persistent drought cycle since 2021. At least 19 Taiwanese facilities are already in watersheds categorized as extreme water stress risk under 2030-2040 climate models. TSMC’s Fab 15 — the sole supplier of Apple’s iPhone processors — is one node in that network. There is no quick alternate source if that node goes offline. On the Horizon: What If You Could Take Water Out of the Equation Entirely?
Conventional compute — every chip in every server rack — generates heat because electrons encounter resistance as they move through silicon. That resistance is physics.
